The warm white LEDs provide a soft, ambient glow that reads as decorative rather than functional: the light is not bright enough for task use, but it is enough to make the display visible and atmospheric in a dim room. Battery power (AA) means no cable to a socket, which gives full flexibility in placement — the string can go anywhere in the room, not just near a wall outlet.
